The original Baby-Sitter's Club book series entertained tween-aged readers from 1986 to 2000, publishing over 200 titles in the ongoing series. Following the adventures of four young girls and their trials as baby-sitters, the series was so popular among readers, it even spawned several spin-off series. An editorial director at Scholastic noted that the decision to bring the books back and introduce them to a new generation of readers was based on numerous fan requests to reinstate the series.
Originally written by Ann M. Martin, Scholastic will begin reissuing the series in April 2010, starting with a brand new prequel titled, "The Summer Before." Martin will only be adding one new prequel to the series, and Scholastic will follow with three re-issues throughout 2010.
Before the reissue, Scholastic will be doing a bit of updating so the books contain modern technology and fashions more identifiable with today's youth.
Though there is no word on whether the entire series will see revisions and repackaging, Scholastic has high hopes that this endeavor into a treasured favorite will inspire a whole new generation of readers.

One of my favorite grammar school memories is of the Scholastic Book Club and the excitement I felt poring over the catalog and ordering books. This is a great idea from Scholastic. Updating the books for today's young readers is a fantastic way to get them excited about reading.

The Baby-sitter's Club books launched many a young kid into a love of reading. It was sort of a "gateway" series that got kids hooked and then craving deeper books.
