Information on unreleased Bob Dylan track from new "NCIS" soundtrack

The White Stripes covering “Outlaw Blues”

“California”, a mid-1960’s recording by Bob Dylan, will be one of ten “exclusive” tracks on the upcoming CD, “NCIS: The Official TV Soundtrack - Vol. 2”. This recording will be featured on the November 3 episode of “NCIS”. The CD will also be released on that date.

The Dylan recording has been in the hands of collectors for decades. According to this article, "California" has been newly mixed and mastered. It appears to be an early version of a song that morphed into “Outlaw Blues”, which appeared on Dylan’s classic 1965 album, “Bringing It All Back Home”. Both songs feature the same fourth verse. Lyrics can be found here and here.

According to Clinton Heylin’s book , “Bob Dylan: The Recording Sessions [1960-1994], “California”, then known as "Tune X" , was recorded in Columbia Studio A, New York, on January 13, 1965. “Outlaw Blues” was recorded the next day in the same studio.
