Country legend Charlie Daniels, former Dylan sideman, suffers mild stroke

Country singer and fiddle player, Charlie Daniels, suffered a mild stroke on Friday while snowmobiling, according to reports.  Daniels was in Colorado at the time. He was treated at Mercy Regional Medical Center in Durango, then was airlifted to Swedish Medical Center in Denver.  Daniels was released on Sunday. No upcoming concert dates have been canceled or postponed.

Charlie Daniels played on  Bob Dylan sessions in 1969 and 1970.  Daniels played guitar on Nashville Skyline, and bass on New Morning and 1973's Dylan. He also overdubbed guitar and dobro in Nashville for Self Portrait

Dylan covering "Old Rock and Roller", a song recorded and partially written by Daniels, Hamburg, July 3, 1990.  Dylan's introduction:  “In case you're wondering what happens to people like me, here's a song to tell about it”.

    that is NOT Charlie Daniels on bass in that clip...it's Leon Russell.

    Daniels plays on the audio (click on the "May 1, 1970" link). The videos was made by a fan, and includes images of Leon Russell. You can read about Russell's recent surgery in my January 15th column.
