Don't leave home without it
I got mine, now you get yours

It’s kind of difficult to imagine that the Windy City Blues Society is a relative newcomer to the Chicago blues world. The Windy City Blues Society is an all volunteer organization and it is an affiliate member of The Blues Foundation, which is the mother of blues organizations.   The Society website says “Our mission is to preserve, promote, and enhance blues music and the blues community; support blues education, and promote the Chicago area blues scene including its blues musicians”.

Damn, I wish I had said that. That is essentially my mission here in The Examiner and with Chicago Blues Beat, and wherever else my contributions are used. Well, I have to tell you that for a double sawbuck, I am indeed a proud member of this club. The people who planned, launched and maintain this society work so hard, I feel guilty just “belonging”. It’s kind of like when someone is vacuuming your carpet for you, and you sheepishly lift up your feet so they won’t miss a spot while you watch TV.

This dedicated group of blues lovers went from zero to sixty in a flash. They have already sent representatives to the Blues Foundations national competitions and now in only their second year of existence will host a stage at the Chicago Blues Fest. The WCBS Street Stage will be located in the Festival Village next to the WCBS booth on Columbus Avenue, North of Jackson, and will feature live blues performances daily by many of Chicago’s finest blues musicians. In the spirit of Chicago’s historic Maxwell Street Market, the performances will be held at ground level.

On each of the three festival days (Friday June 11th through Sunday) they will present six, count them six, shows from noon until 7:15 PM. The featured performers are the Who’s Who of Players. Most of them would be headliners in an average Blues festival, and here they are on one stage for your entertainment pleasure. I guess you could say it’s my gift to you. After all, I am a member. Yes, I am a charter member. I go way back to the beginnings.

Speaking of members, please stop by the WCBS booth next to the stage. Thank them for their hard work and dedication. Better yet, hand them a Twenty and join. That’s about the cost of a few beers and a hotdog, but it will last all year. I was so enthused by their mission that I was going to get the Lifetime Membership, but the Society person looked up at my old face, and suggested that I might not want that deal.

Here’s your chance to become a part of the fastest growing Blues Society in Chicago. Your membership provides great opportunities to meet new friends who share your love of the Blues. Attend WCBS events, get discounted concert tickets and merchandise and contribute through reviews and articles and more. The discounts alone will pay for the membership in a short time. They also have an online community that keeps up with the Chicago’s Blues scene.

I am linking you right now to a WCBS Membership Form. Fill it out now and save time at the booth.   By the way, where it asks who referred you on the form, be sure to put my name Lordy. Why my name? I already told you, I feel very guilty enjoying the society without doing all the work
