WUSA and CSN Ready for Redskins Pre-season

WUSA and CSN ready for the Redskins

By: Jim Williams

The Examiner

The annual battle between WUSA9 and Comcast Sports Net for the home of the Redskins will start Saturday Night. Washington takes on Buffalo at 7pm from FedEx field and CSN will have the pre-game show starting at 6pm. Redskins Kickoff, Chick Hernandez and Trevor Matich will be the hosts. Matich takes over for Ray Brown who is now coaching with Buffalo. Matich worked with Fox 5 on their Redskins coverage (won an Emmy) and still works for ESPN as a college football analyst. Carol Maloney will also be a part of the Redskins Kickoff show again, as well as Kelli Johnson.

Starting next week Skins fans will have a choice of pre-game shows. WUSA9 will do a half hour show hosted by Brett Haber, the award winning sports director will host "Redskins Tailgate" with Ryan Kuehl. The show debuts next week due to CBS coverage of the PGA Championship this week.

The game will have Haber as the pre-game and halftime host with Mike Patrick and Joe Theismann calling the action. The sideline reports will come from Kelli Johnson and so the Redskins broadcasts will have the same team they had last season.

Post game fans have two choices WUSA will offer "Redskins Overtime" live from FedEx Field with Haber and Kuehl handling the interviews and comments. CSN will have Redskins Post Game Live with Hernandez, Matich and Johnson also from FedEx.

This is the drill for the pre-season. Broadcast TV the games are on WUSA-9, cable the games are on CSN with all telecasts in HD.

Radio will be ESPN 980AM, WTNT 570AM, WWRC 1260AM and throughout the mid Atlantic on the Redskins Radio network with the pre-game show with Kevin Sheehan starting at 5pm. Post game will be handled by Andy Pollan.

Quick notes Brian Mitchell will be joining Brett Haber once again Sunday nights at 11;30pm on  "Sports Plus."

The NFL Network starts their big Pre-season football coverage this weekend. Friday night through the entire weekend with the Eagles taking on the Steelers live from Pittsburgh at 7:30pm. But there will be plenty of tape games all weekend long so check the website.

Here is the view of the new CSN SportsNite set that viewers will see tonight at 6pm. It is a true HD and it does have a network look to it!

Finally kudos to CN8 for doing well in the nominations for the mid-Atlantic Emmy Awards. CN8 Sports nomination highlights include: “Out of Bounds” Host Gregg Murphy nominated for Best Host/Moderator, “Out of Bounds Late Night” Host Jeff Rickard nominated for Best Anchor-Sports and John Carchedi for Best Reporter-Sports. The network was also recognized for its live sports coverage with several Emmy nominations for “Varsity Gamenight,” “CAA Men’s Basketball Tournament” and “CN8 College Football.”
