Scoring Early
It looked like it was going to be a short day for D Cab and a long day for O’s fans when David DeJesus homered for the Royals in the first, but adult film star aficionado Aubrey Huff answered in the bottom of the inning with a home run of his own, a two run blast that scored Brian Roberts. It was 2-1 Orioles after the first inning.

In the second, the Orioles had a chance to add to their lead, but shortstop Brandon Fahey grounded weakly into a double play with Melvin Mora at third base and Adam Jones at first. Fahey looks like he’s going to need a shot of Miguel Tejada’s B-12 if he wants to be able to lift that bat five times a week.
Deep Thoughts
In the third inning,
My personal highlight of the inning, though, was this gem of a quote from Huff. In a taped MASN segment, Huff was asked to explain his recent success at the plate. How has he changed his plate philosophy?
“I just stopped thinkin’ so much, man,” the DH/IB explained.
You know, I’ve always said that about Aubrey Huff. The guy is always thinking.
Back in the game, Daniel Cabrera was still having some difficulty in the fourth, bobbling a few routine grounders and issuing a balk when he made a movement to first with no one covering.
I’m Glovin’ It
Brian Roberts became the fourth leadoff man to get on base for the O’s in the fifth inning. He scored on a Markakis triple that Royals’ CF Joey Gathright kept in the yard by leaping and getting all Inspector Gadget with his gloved arm. This guy can seriously play. Markakis came home on a Ramon Hernandez single, and the Orioles were three ahead through five innings.
Roberts had a nifty play of his own in the bottom half of the inning, jumping while extending his arm at least 5’ 6” from the dirt and robbing the Royals of a base hit. Get it, because he’s short! (Be kind, people. Be kind.)
Royals starter Gil “Ga” Meche was pulled from the game with no outs in the sixth inning. The
I Live For This?
I’m out of the area and watching these games on MLB.tv. The internet video quality isn’t bad, but the audio has a tendency to get caught in a loop. Listening to Buck Martinez and Gary Thorne talk about the importance of striking out leadoff batters is pretty bad, but hearing it on a constant loop is pretty much hell on earth. Also, MLB.tv’s slogan is “Keep Watching.” This is a pretty poor slogan, in my opinion. I never thought two words could be so demanding and presumptuous. I’d like to write to the commissioner and suggest a better slogan. Here are a few possibilities.
Do you, dear reader, have any suggestions for the online wing of Bud Selig’s empire? If so, I’d love to hear from you.
