Sure, a few other teams have their classic stadium tunes. They still play “Go Cubs, Go” at Wrigley. That song is even older and more derivative than “Magic,” if it's possible.

Of course, “Go Cubs, Go” was written when the Cubs played at Wrigley Field, and now...they play at Wrigley Field. The place has exposed wire hanging everywhere, and they don't even have a video scoreboard for replays. They're old school, and it works for them.

“Orioles Magic” has a line about “the thundering roar from 34.” That's section 34 in Memorial Stadium, the former home of superfan and Dundalk native “Wild” Bill Hagy. Is there ever any pro-Orioles roaring going on in Camden Yards' section 34? I doubt it. The seats I buy have three digits, but I don't recall ever hearing anything resembling thunder coming from the wine and cheese section below.

Mercifully, in 2008 the Orioles removed “Orioles Magic” from the players' first-inning entrance. It was replaced with Saliva's 2000 “hit” “Click, Click, Boom,” a song which is about, as far as I can tell, nothing. Yet, its angsty, empty nothingness is better than the stale disco-light feel of “Orioles Magic.” I prefer the absence of something to the dated something that is “Orioles Magic.”

Since “Magic” was removed from the intro, Camden Yards attendees are now only subjected to it after the game when the Orioles win. In other words, it hasn't been played since late July.

Unfortunately, when the song is played, it is accompanied with this 2008 video. Did you notice who's in that video? No, not the “lead singer.” That's Kevin Millar. He's good for a laugh. No. I'm talking about the floppy-headed dork with the tie “playing” the keyboard. That's...that's. God, I promised I'd never say these words again...THAT'S ADAM LOEWEN! That punk probably broke his elbow showboating on the keyboard! You can't show a video with Adam Loewen in it! Hell, I'd rather watch a 10-hour documentary on the history of the Yankees than watch a video with Adam Loewen smiling.

What say we put “Orioles Magic” and its offensively pro-Benedict Arnold video to rest and choose a new song to play after games?

I for one would vote for this song. Hey, it is downtown Baltimore, after all. I’m sure there are other songs out there as well. I leave it to my readers to offer further suggestions. I hope that you will listen to them with an open mind.

Come on, O's employees. Progress! Feel it happen!
