Below is an article of exactly one such "I told you so" instance that deals with the very cumbersome yet important responsibility of estate liquidation.
While I'm putting a bit of a humorous spin on this, there is nothing at all funny about the situation that follows. The subject of the article is tragic, and could have very well been avoided.
From the article:
In case you think your mother’s death is going to put a stop to her always being right about everything and your coming up always slightly short of the mark, I draw your attention to the Case of the Missing Calder.
Even before the days of handing over safe-deposit keys and signing powers of attorney, my mother feared that my sister and I did not appreciate the value of the small number of artists’ prints and oil paintings she and my late father had collected. For one thing, she knew that this art was not to either of our tastes. There was the depressing Modernist cityscape, the twirling, impastoed tango dancers, the “cubist” snow-roofed barn, the obligatory Don Quixote in the powder room. Now here's what's weird about all of this for me. People are often suspicious of antiques dealers, aucitoneers, estate liquidators, or anyone with specialized knowledge for that matter.
That known, you'd think it would be a no-brainer that they would seek to gain some of that knowledge from a professional. There's no excuse not to when it's readily, and conveintly available at an affordable price.
One such expert that offers such help is my friend Martin Codina. Matin has been in the estate liquidation business for 10 years, and would be happy to help out everyone he can with is liquidation services.
Martin, however, can't buy every estate or item he is contacted about however, so, seeing the great need people have for his services, he's put together a DIY Estate Liquidation Package at a very affordable price.
If your in an estate liquidation situation, my best advice for you is, get the help of a professional. The fees charged are peanuts compared to what you could lose if you go it alone.
If your in need of a more hands on approach to begin with, and you can't meet with Martin personally because your not in the CA area, perhaps you would benefit from one of my "over the phone, liquidation consultations", click on the phone or the link below it to find out about those.
Whichever route you go, please, PLEASE get the help of a professional because getting ripped off will be a nightmare for you, and it will leave a stain on all of the reputable people liquidation business, which are most of us.
