Antiques price report, eBay auctions of North Adams MA Trust

December 1, 12:06 PM

Recently I've been reporting quite a bit about the wonderful antiques from a North Adams MA Trust which I'm responsible for liquidating on eBay.

Here's a price report on what some of those items brought last week. In short I've found that good quality antiques are doing better than ever in a pure auction format.

By pure I mean auctions that have low starting bids without reserves.

Every one of the auctions in this Trust have started out at $9.95 and all future auctions will start at that price or lower. This means that some items will be sold for next to nothing, while some will take off like a jet.

This is why many are meandering over from Wall St. to give the antiques investment market a closer look.

This  1780 needlepoint was done by 10 year old Lucy Withington. It sold for $405. The raw products to make it cost about 15 cents originally.

Americana
I thought this lot sold low at $127.50

Your always safe when you invest in Americana at the right price. This Breckenridge CO, historical photo album went for only $127.50.

Considering that it's a uniuqe piece of important American history, I thought it was a steal at that price. The buyer should make a healthy profit on this lot!

If anything really blew my socks off, it was that this stunning Meridan silverpated pitcher sold for only $46.99!  It's 17" tall, from 1868 and in excellent condition.

I should think it would retail for about $225.

If you take a close look at this price report and what all of my auctions closed at last week, you'll find I'm spot on with my assessment of the antiques market via the auction method.

You see, when you auction multiple items, some bring high prices, some low, and most go right in the middle where they should be.

However, the great advantage to selling at low start, no reserve auctions, is that you'll acheieve a 95 to 100% sell through rate of good items.

If you can show me any other market where that is possible I'll trade in my MA auction license for a train ticket to get there!

Real auctions are the best way to sell for average when you want to sell, not sit on your stock.
