What to do with the dirt bikes

October 15, 10:59 AM

In a previous post I mentioned that the City Paper is a great source for local news. For some reason a lot of people in the Baltimore area do not read articles in the City Paper. This week there is a great article about Baltimore dirt bikes in the City Paper that all of you should check out.  This article actually talks about what happens to the bikes after they are confiscated. It is nice to see that the city has actually seized a lot of bikes. It is disturbing to find out what is happening to the confiscated bikes.

Under city law the bikes must be sold, destroyed, or donated to an overseas charity once the city has them in their possession. The article states that the city is selling the bikes to scrapyards to be destroyed. This seems like a total waste of a vehicle and the city is not maximizing the money it could be generating from the sales by selling them at scrap prices. It makes me wonder about how efficient the city is when it disposes surplus property. Someone should look into that.

If I were in charge of disposing of these bikes I would contact a rural jurisdiction far away from Baltimore (to ensure that we never see them again on our streets) and offer to sell them the functioning bikes. We live in a throw away society but this is ridiculous. These definitely is demand for these bikes in rural areas and Baltimore should maximize it's profit from these street nuisances.

Illegal Baltimore Dirt Bikes

May 16, 2:28 PM
Illegal dirt bikes are a plague in Baltimore once it gets warm. The bikes can be found in just about every part of the city going the wrong way, speeding, and on the sidewalks.  The operators of these bikes have little regard for their own lives... Read More
