Will Baltimore Ever Be Released From the Stranglehold of Churches?

August 28, 5:40 PM

Government should not be in the business of strengthening the control of religious institutions over the citizens. In Baltimore we see federal, state, and local leaders rewarding organizations controlled by religious institutions with tax payer money in return for votes and campaign contributions. I have said it before and I will say it again: "There is no separation of church and state in Baltimore ". We can not tax churches so we give them tax money. That makes no sense.  Taking in to account the power of religious institutions in Baltimore you would think more people in this town would support Bush and his Faith-Based Programs? The Republicans in DC have their own version of religious bribery that many in Baltimore have probably scammed there way in to.

The corrupt religious institutions (and not all religious institutions are corrupt) keep their flocks naive and helpless while the politicians come by every four years to gobble up their church encouraged votes.  Take note of how just about every "successful" politician prominently lists at least one church membership on his or her resume.

It is sick to see some of these so-called churches turn in to tax free havens for their corrupt county-dwelling wealthy preachers. I wish there was a way to charge religious institutions environmental impact fees for the litter that some of their non-city dwelling parishioners dump out of their cars when they come to church on Sundays (I have eyewitnesses in west Baltimore that have seen this exact thing happen). Maybe we can issue religious institution licenses and only allow a limited number of them in a ten square block area?  That's against the law you say? Just like how it is against the law for churches to endorse political candidates?

Drive around Baltimore and you will notice that there are a lot of churches.  Some are in large magnificent buildings while others are in run down storefronts or rowhouses.  Most of them are tax exempt in one way or another.  Many are... Read More
