Prostitution in Baltimore

August 12, 3:58 PM

My story about a Baltimore prostitution website generated a lot of talk so I wanted to write more about prostitution in Baltimore today.

Stephen Janis and Luke Broadwater of the Baltimore Examiner wrote three articles that focus on the dangers of prostitution in Baltimore.  The photos are very telling:

How would you like to live amongst all this? Wilkins Avenue, Washington Boulevard, Monroe Street, and Lombard Street are names synonymous with prostitution. You can drive around the area where all these streets come close to each other (Pigtown, Carrollton Ridge, and Hollins Market areas) and pick up a prostitute at just about any hour of the day.  This Baltimore prostitution epicenter is primarily located in the 9th district of Baltimore.  Agnes Welch is the representative of this area.  Welch needs to step up and and do something about this situation. The 9th district is one of the worst in terms of drugs/prostitution/empty houses in all of Baltimore.  There needs to be a plan to stop johns from cruising the area. Citizens need to have some sort of well publicized prostitution hotline.  The prostitutes need to be taken off the street. This is not only for the good of the community but for the physical well being of the women.  Prostitution is an accepted way of life in this corner of Baltimore, this has to change if the overall quality of life is ever going to improve down there.
