Greetings! As most of you may know, Earth Day was yesterday, and there are events occurring around the world for this entire week in honor of our planet. I would like to take this opportunity to inform all of you on Baltimore events in which you could take part in enriching the earth simply by making your community greener! Baltimore Green Week (www.baltimoregreenweek.org) is a city-wide program in charge of events, informative lectures, activities, and includes the EcoFestival this Saturday April 26, 2008 (raindate April 27th) at Druid Hill Park by the Reservoir. Click here for details. Have you ever taken the Global Ecological Footprint Quiz? If you have not, you really should – it’s a must! I took an environmental biology course in college that I rate as my second-favorite course I have ever taken. It really made an impression on me mainly because it was a science course that I actually enjoyed (I myself was never cut out for the science and math courses). As part of an assignment, each person in the class had to go online and take this quiz which measured our impact on the earth based on our individual lifestyle:
Once you finish the quiz, the results are measured in “global hectares” (gha) based on the “biocapacity of the earth”. The average number of global hectares used by a person is 21 gha. My personal score was a whopping 43.70 gha, which was a bit of a wake-up call; it made me think of some changes I could make in my lifestyle that would be helpful to our earth. If you try this quiz, I would love to hear about your results! ![]()
