Short Order Cook = ME

I haven’t been able to come up with anything particularly engaging on the topic of food for almost ten days now. It isn’t that I am bored with food—far from it. After all, it is one of the last sensual pleasures left for us humans (according to pal Jerry Lim) that won’t kill us, assuming you’re not eating razor blades or ice cream every day.

It could have something to do with the drudgery of being a short order cook. Day in, day out, I’m preparing miniature delicacies to a sometimes appreciative and other times, utterly unforgiving audience.

Anyhoo, I figured I’d better write something soon or get my walking papers from the Examiner, so here goes:

The girls’ menu for Saturday, June 21, 2008.

Breakfast:

  • Apple juice and water
  • Apple sauce
  • Soy yogurt
  • Graham crackers
  • Scrambled eggs
  • Banana

Before Nap Lunch:

  • Hummus and tortilla chips
  • Soy milk
  • Veggie chips
  • Fresh pear
  • Soy yogurt
  • Apple sauce

After Nap Snack:

  • Avocado
  • Veggie chips
  • Juice (undetermined)
  • Cookies
  • Crackers

Dinner:

  • Some kind of chicken, probably with ketchup
  • Left over pasta from last night’s dinner
  • Hummus
  • Maybe soy yogurt, though they’ve eaten their weight in yogurt today

The after nap snack and dinner haven’t happened yet, but this is a good idea of what’s involved in feeding 22 month-old human females. Their stomachs are bottomless pits, but when their little tummies are full, they are delightful in every way (except for the occasional hair pulling and biting incidents).

This post will be short and sweet. Very sweet. It is more a reminder to myself than anything. Because yesterday at a morning gathering of friends with tots, I forgot that I had any sense and allowed my almost two-year-olds to consume copious amounts... Read More

Sheesh -- It's been a while since I had a minute to post thoughts on food! Time has a way of sneaking by when you're not looking. There's been a lot of action in my little world. Much of which has had to do with food. Maybe I need to sit down for a hot... Read More

Didn't make it to the farmer's market this past weekend, so I'm lamenting the lack of seasonal tomatoes in my house. My husband's pop in North Carolina has a little farmer's market in his own back yard, aka his bitchin' garden. Two weekends ago my mother-in-law... Read More
