Cheeseburger Deluxe

June 12, 3:05 PM

The subject of hangover remedies and snacks seems to touch many of you, which I find utterly charming. Would love to get everyone's input on tried and true solutions and recipes if you have any. Keep 'em coming!

If I had not been treated to the Ambassador Dining Room for Indian food last Sunday, what I may have sought out to help with my head of pain would be a classic American delicacy. That's right, the CHEESEBURGER DELUXE.

If you don't spend much time in diners, you may not be familiar with the title for this dish, but undoubtedly have encountered it or some form of it in your travels. The Cheeseburger (or Hamburger, or Veggie Burger or Turkey Burger) Deluxe is: a cheeseburger with lettuce, tomato, onion, pickle, a side of fries, sometimes cole slaw, and a drink, which should most likely be Coke. You can go into this meal feeling like a bag of nauseated, headachy garbage and leave it feeling like a salty, greasy million bucks. I swear by its powers, and in my youth, when feeling bad the next day was a semi-frequent occurrence, it was a life-saver.

These days since I don't get to drink much or get out much for that matter, the Cheeseburger Deluxe is reserved for the occasional lunch with a friend (usually our very own beautiful and brilliant Beauty Examiner) who enjoys the same meal, only she likes her burger bloody while I'm more of a well-done gal. Arika C. and I have had excellent cheeseburgers at City Cafe and the Charles Village Pub (we go to the one in Charles Village). City Cafe has half-price burger nights on Mondays if you're looking for a cheap and delicious burgeriffic evening out.

** P.S. the image above is a tasty cheeseburger from City Cafe on a particularly fine day.
