POSTED April 16, 5:10 PM

On May 3, 2008 in Baltimore a race to cure "Lou Gehrig's Disease"  will start off on the right foot with the
Johns Hopkins' Fiesta 5K & Fun Run. Every dollar between the $75,000 and $100,000 mark raised by others for this second annual fundraiser will be matched by the unnamed donor eager to accelerate research aimed at eradicating amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS), a fatal neurodegenerative disease.

Raven Super Bowl champ and presently on the Ravens coaching staff O.J. Brigance - recently  was diagnosed with ALS and will chair this year's Fiesta 5K and Fun Run.  The event starts and finishes at the Power Plant Live!- Pavilion in Baltimore's Inner Harbor. Day-of registration starts at 6:30 a.m. with an 8:00 a.m. start time.
On-line registration is available now by logging on to the Center's website
 http://www.alscenter.org.
Though the race is held in Baltimore, it's drawing registrants from around the U.S. entering as "siesta" participants who will run on a "virtual level,"says the Packard Center's Assistant Director of Development Emily Ehehalt.
Coast-to-coast participation is in keeping with the Packard Center's philosophy of bringing some of the world's best minds together in a "virtual labora."

Created in 2000, The Packard Center operates within the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine in Baltimore, but its scope is international and its membership by invitation only.
