MARYLAND ZOO IN BALTIMORE

WHAT:  Animal Enrichment Weekend - a Kick-off of National Zookeepers Week!

WHERE:    The Maryland Zoo, in Baltimore, held throughout various locations at the Zoo.

DATE & TIME:  Saturday and Sunday, July 19 & 20.  Activities take place from 10-4 pm. At 10.30 a.m. the day will start on Saturday when Sampson the baby elephant will partake in some watermelon munching, to celebrate his 4 month birthday

FUN DETAILS Zoo guests will also have the opportunity to get involved with the enrichment activities. Some lucky visitors will be chosen to throw fish to the otters and polar bears. Kids can also stop by a special station where they can use non-toxic markers and crayons to decorate paper bags to be used as enrichment for the animals. Keepers will then fill those bags with items such as food, straw, or toys, and give them to the animals at a later date. Guests can also visit a station where several enrichment items, including boomer balls and puzzle feeders, will be on display.

 


Root Beer vodks

 

 DRINK OF THE WEEKEND

Stars are usually seen sipping cosmos or martinis, but there’s a new cocktail that’s making the rounds in celebrity circles – the spiked root beer float!

Here’s the recipe:

Spiked Root Beer Float

2 oz. Three Olives Root Beer Vodka  (A must have to make this truly work)

1 oz. Jägermeister

1 scoop vanilla ice cream

5 oz. Root Beer Soda

Anne’s Note:  Could not wait to try this one, so I went out got the ingredients and let me tell you in a word; YUMMY…With the temps hotter than you know where, this weekend create your own (adult) ice cream pop shop. . More recipes to yum, I mean come!

Slow Food Baltimore presents:

Maryland-style BBQ at the gorgeous Gundpowder Bison and Trading Company Ranch, in Monkton, Maryland.

When: Saturday, July 19 (rain date July 20)

  5pm-Guided tour of farm, followed by Bison BBQ till 10p.m.
