Late Night Music -Why So Late?

Getting older can be quite a drag, especially when it comes to catching live music around town.   Can anyone tell me why it is absolutely necessary that live music start after 10:00 p.m.?  Even worse is when the band you want to see has two or three opening acts and doesn’t hit until midnight.   I have kids.  I’m in bed by 9:00 most nights.  Even if you manage to stay out past midnight, the kids are still getting up at 6:00 a.m. and you’re spent for the whole next day.

The habit of bands playing into the wee morning hours is closely related to the fact that music venues make their money from alcohol sales, not from cover charges.  People drink late, so the bands play late.  I wish there was a way to pry away the nexus between live music and drink sales so live music could start at a decent hour.  I think the bands might enjoy that more too.  Just something to think about.  Anyway, maybe I should just take more naps.

In any event don’t miss the following sleep depriving events:

6/27/08 Out to lunch Little Falls Tavern
6/27/08 Jimmie's Chicken Shack Champion's Frederick, MD
7/07/08 Joshua Jones 8 X 10
7/12/08 Crack the Sky REcher Theatre
