Click and Clack Can Bring Your Car Back

June 4, 5:13 AM
by Kyle Busch, Automotive Examiner

Car Talk is a National Public Radio talk show that stars Tom and
Ray Magliozzi who are better known as Click and Clack – the Tappet
Brothers.

Car Talk's Click and Clack - The Tappet Brothers

The Tom and Ray are Italian, and thus the show is lively,
upbeat and positive. People from the listening audience
call in to ask Tom and Ray car questions and get insight
with car problems. The brothers have seen just
about everything car related and even the worst car
problem usually becomes a laughing matter along with
the correct diagnosis. If a caller has an unusual name, Tom
and Ray will inquire regarding the spelling, pronunciation,
and origin of the caller’s name.

Car Talk is the highest rated and most financially successful
program on public radio in the United States. The show is
broadcast on over 600 stations and to over 4.3 million weekly
listeners.

Even though every show includes plenty of lively fun, make
no mistake, Click and Clack are real pros. They run their own
auto repair garage (the Good News Garage) and both have
degrees from MIT. Intelligence and wit go hand in hand with
these brothers.

Celebrities who have called in include: Geena Davis, Morley
Safer, Ashley Judd, Gordon Elliott, former Major League
pitcher Bill Lee and astronaut John Grunsfeld calling in
from a space shuttle.

The call-in procedure includes a toll-free number 1-888-Car-Talk
(1-888-227-8255), and the brothers encourage listens to call in.
This gives the audience the impression that the calls will be taken
live during the broadcast. In reality, the calls are prescreened with
callers being encouraged to “have fun.” The most interesting and
entertaining questions are then selected to be answered on the
program, but the brothers do not know the questions before being
asked.

At the end of the show, Ray tells the audience, “Don’t drive like my
brother” to which Tom replies, “And don’t drive like my brother.”

I welcome your comments and car question at my auto
