One of Baltimore's true gems is the Maryland Historical Society. The MDHS, founded in 1844, is a "temple of Maryland memories and of Maryland fame." The MDHS complex, located at 210 West Monument St. offers a museum, special collections, art gallery, a vast research library, and education programs dedicated to preserving and showcasing the Free State's rich history. The Society also features wonderful events, and there are two very interesting events on tap this month.
Thursday June 19 at 6:00 PM the Society will feature a talk by David H. Jones, author of the Civil War era historical novel Two Brothers: One North, One South. Baltimore is the hometown of two of the main characters in the novel. The event is free with museum admission.

With the referendum to add slots to the state constitution on the ballot in November, this should make for an interesting talk. Pons will also talk about his book Merryland: Two Years in the Life of a Racing Stable
