Doctors and Patients on the Same Side of Medicare Payment Cuts

It is nice to see doctors and patients on the same side of an issue. That doesn’t happen all that often anymore.

Both patient advocate and physician advocate organizations have worked to convince Congress to support a bill that would protect physicians from a planned 10% cut in reimbursement for their care of Medicare patients. Many physicians have indicated that they would be unable to afford to keep Medicare patients in their practices if this significant pay cut were implemented.

Physicians want to be able to keep their Medicare patients, and even add new ones to their panels, and patients with Medicare want to be able to find a physician.

I am relieved that both the House and the Senate voted today to override the President’s veto of this bill.

Patients deserve to have access to doctors and doctors deserve to be compensated fairly for their services.

Thanks, Congress. You done good today.
