Hits Keep Coming, Orioles Win

The Orioles stayed hot Saturday afternoon scoring 9 runs on 14 hits to beat the Blue Jays 9-5 in Toronto.  Baltimore clinches a series win, moves ahead of .500, and jumps ½ game ahead of the Jays and the Yankees.

In a big 5-run 5th inning, Jay Payton stepped up for the O’s with a 3-run double scoring 3 of his 5 RBI on the day.

Finally, Jeremy Guthrie gets the support he needs to pick up his 3rd win. 

Steve Trachsel tried his best to blow it for the starter in 8th inning relief recording only 3 outs but giving up 4 hits, 2 walks, and 4 runs.  Thankfully the washed-up pitcher was pulled before he could give away the win.  Only 2 of the runs were recorded as earned thanks to a Freddie Bynum misplay at third, but even in relief, Trachsel is not looking like a valuable piece to the rebuilding puzzle.

Nick Markakis’ 3 for 5 effort brings his average roaring back to .292 and takes his hitting streak to 10 games.

The Orioles go for the sweep tomorrow as Radhames Liz goes head-to-head with ace Roy Halladay.  Liz is coming off a spectacular season debut and it will be interesting to see how he follows up his initial success.
