These Are Crazy Times

Again, it may be a sign of the times, but I think it is absolutely ridiculous to give Flacco such a big contract. $30 million over 5 years--whatever happened to playing and earning a big contract?  Why are teams giving all of these untested players so much scratch?  Flacco has, what, $8.75 million in guaranteed money?  Unbelievable.  Of course, the big question is, how will Flacco play?  Who knows?  Some readers say Flacco will be the starter by game 5 or 6, while others say he isn't fit for arena football.  The answer probably lies somewhere in the middle.  Flacco needs to spend a season or two (preferably two) learning the ropes.  The size of the contract suggests that the Ravens have faith that they have found their QB of the future.  Too hard to say these days.

I think Flacco could be, in time, a good QB.  But offering him so much money is crazy.  I don't think Flacco will join the list of laughable Ravens QBs: Stoney Case, Scott Mitchell, Tony Banks, Eric Zier, Elvis Grbac, Chris Redcman, Anthony Wright and Jeff Blake.   UGH!  At least, I hope he doesn't.  But who knows?

All we can hope is that Flacco earns the money by playing well.  Only time will tell.
