Phil Macek treats every aspect of the Ravens--from the preseason to the last snap of the game--as if it's fourth and inches and the game's tied late in the fourth quarter. He'll keep you up to speed on all things Ravens.
I've gotten some comments, both here and on the street, about Troy Smith being the Ravens starting QB. One writer commented that Smith shouldn't be the quarterback because "he stunk it up" in the game against Seattle. Please. While I agree that Smith didn't exactly light it up, it is preposterous to think that one shaky performance negates his chance to lead this team. The same writer suggested that Flacco be baptized by fire and named the starter. I think Flacco will be a very good NFL quarterback, but it would be a major mistake to let him start the first game. His confidence needs to be nurtured. His body should not be thrown in harm's way. There is no need to risk serious injury to so promising a prospect. Let him get his reps in practice, and let him be the backup.
Which brings us back to Troy Smith. He should be the starter--pure and simple. While Troy can play ugly at times, he can also lead some solid drives that end in points. He will become more consistent in time.
Sadly, I hardly think it's worth it to include Kyle Boller in the conversation. Anybody who can't see his lack of ability to lead this team has not been paying attention. He has demonstrated over and over again that he cannot be an effective starter.
Sure, it's Coach Harbaugh's decision, but what do you think?
The Ravens renew their rivalry with the Colts this weekend. Let's face it, the Colts and Ravens have played some memorable games lately, including the 15-6 playoff loss Baltimore suffered a few years back. The rivalry is fueled by history,... Read More
It's almost to the point where I'm looking for Todd Heap on the side of a milk carton. Have you seen his stats this season? Seven catches catches for 78 yards? He's had that kind of production in a half, never mind four games. ... Read More Topics:

This one stings. A late TD toss by Kerry Collins keeps the Titans unbeaten and the Ravens thinking about what could -- no, what SHOULD -- have been. For most of the game Kerry Collins played more like Joan Collins, boasting a quarterback rating... Read More Topics:

I got a comment the other day from a reader who is worried that Baltimore's loss to the Steelers is the beginning of a downward spiral. Sorry, but I don't see it. Though they lost, the Ravens played hard (despite the mental mistakes) and... Read More Topics:

The game Monday night was hard to swallow. It would have been different if the Steelers had just beaten us, but I know that we, in reality, gave the game away. Jarret Johnson's foolish penalty didn't help; it gave the Steelers momentum, which... Read More Topics:

In compiling this list of the best 10 moments in Ravens history, I'm struck by how many plays and moments have to be passed over. In their relatively short existence, the Ravens have stockpiled enough memories to fill 50 "Best Of"... Read More Topics:

O.K., unrelated to the Ravens, unless they're playing in February, but I just heard that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl XLIII. It gets no better than this.Let the debates over the set list... Read More
Time to put my 2-0 record on the line. Baltimore's Monday night game against the Steelers features the two best defenses in the NFL. Throw in the fact that Baltimore has a rookie quarterback and a road game and it all adds up, I think, to... Read More Topics:
