Cam Cameron's New Philosophy

June 21, 12:11 PM

The Ravens have always had a strong defense--a strong-willed, tenacious, opportunistic defense that looked to score points and intimidate their opponents into submission. The 2008 defense should be no different.

Wouldn't it be nice if the offense had the same mentality--the mentality that they were going to score points no matter what the defense did?

That is what we need here in Charm City.

Enter Cam Cameron.  Despite his ghastly season in Miami last year, Cameron comes highly regarded as an offensive mastermind.  Look what he did for Philip Rivers and the Chargers. He helped get them to the AFC title game, where they endured a tough loss to the Patriots.

Now his job is to resurrect a sluggish Ravens offense.  Cameron's philosophy is brilliantly simple: "If you don't have the ball, then you are a blocker." I love it!  Aggressive and tough.  Of course, Cameron is going to develop the passing and running games by adding different schemes and plays to fit the talent.  It sounds like the idea is to stress fundamentals.  The concept should work beautifully. It is nice to think that the defense won't always have to carry the offense.  At least that's the plan.  And I think Cameron can pull it off.  It should be fun to watch.

Ravens and Colts game will be a close one

October 10, 1:33 PM
The Ravens renew their rivalry with the Colts this weekend.  Let's face it, the Colts and Ravens have played some memorable games lately, including the 15-6 playoff loss Baltimore suffered a few years back.  The rivalry is fueled by history,... Read More

Todd Heap: Missing in action?

October 8, 1:13 PM
It's almost to the point where I'm looking for Todd Heap on the side of a milk carton.  Have you seen his stats this season? Seven catches catches for 78 yards?  He's had that kind of production in a half, never mind four games. ... Read More

Flabbergasted

October 5, 4:51 PM
This one stings.  A late TD toss by Kerry Collins keeps the Titans unbeaten and the Ravens thinking about what could -- no, what SHOULD -- have been. For most of the game Kerry Collins played more like Joan Collins, boasting a quarterback rating... Read More

Ravens will improve to 3-1

October 3, 3:01 PM
I got a comment the other day from a reader who is worried that Baltimore's loss to the Steelers is the beginning of a downward spiral.  Sorry, but I don't see it.  Though they lost, the Ravens played hard (despite the mental mistakes) and... Read More

Moving past tough loss

October 1, 11:16 PM
The game Monday night was hard to swallow.  It would have been different if the Steelers had just beaten us, but I know that we, in reality, gave the game away.  Jarret Johnson's foolish penalty didn't help; it gave the Steelers momentum, which... Read More

Best 10 moments in Ravens history

September 30, 2:57 PM
In compiling this list of the best 10 moments in Ravens history, I'm struck by how many plays and moments have to be passed over.  In their relatively short existence, the Ravens have stockpiled enough memories to fill 50 "Best Of"... Read More

Breaking news about the Super Bowl

September 28, 10:32 PM
O.K., unrelated to the Ravens, unless they're playing in February, but I just heard that Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band will be the halftime entertainment for Super Bowl XLIII.  It gets no better than this.Let the debates over the set list... Read More

Prediction: Ravens drop a close one

September 28, 9:43 PM
Time to put my 2-0 record on the line.  Baltimore's Monday night game against the Steelers features the two best defenses in the NFL.  Throw in the fact that Baltimore has a rookie quarterback and a road game and it all adds up, I think, to... Read More

Rookie mistake

September 27, 8:02 PM
Rashard Mendenhall, stupidly audacious rookie Pittsburgh running back, has a lot to learn.  When you are about to play the #1 ranked defense in the NFL, you might want to be politic and polite. What did Mendenhall do?  This Einstein sent... Read More
