On Brian Billick and John Harbaugh

I've gotten some comments about Brian Billick and how he will prove to be one of the best coaches in franchise history.  In terms of wins and losses, it's hard to argue against Billick.  He compiled an impressive 80-64 record and posted a winning record in the postseason (5-3).   Consider, however, that four of those postseason wins came in the Super Bowl year and that Billick's 2006 team earned a first round bye before getting beat by the Colts (15-6) at home.

There were numerous grumblings that Billick had lost control of his team and that discipline was lax.  It seemed like players' comments influenced personnel decisions, which, in my opinion, should not happen.

It was time--pure and simple.  Steve Biscotti made the right move.  Coach Harbaugh has some work to do to get the team unified and focused--and he will.  He has some amazing coaches.  I am especially curious to see how Cam opens up the offense and lessens some of the pressure on the defense.  I hope the passing game attacks more and goes vertical, which should do wonders for the running game.

Mostly, though, I'm excited to see what kind of personality this team exhibits.  I hope that passion, commitment, unity, and winning are the hallmarks of this team.  We'll see soon.

I wish Billick well, but there's a new man in town.

John Harbaugh is the right man at the right time.
