Would You Let A Baby Drive A Car?

May 20, 12:40 PM

All the early reviews about Joe Flacco have been raves.  His arm strength is good.  His accuracy is solid, and according to some media outlets, Flacco should compete for the starting job.

What?

Are they kidding?

While the early signs are good, who in their right mind would let Flacco run the offense this year?  Would you let a baby drive a car?

Hell no!

First off, he has to learn a whole new offense.  Secondly, he has to learn how to read defenses.  Thirdly, he has to grow into a field general and command the respect off the team's veterans.

No, it's best to let him hold the clipboard and study Steve McNair and Kyle Boller.

I remember when Indianapolis threw Peyton Manning to the dogs.  He got absolutely abused for his first five or six seasons before he mastered his offense.  I remember, too, that Troy Aikman endured a 1-15 season and some hard times in Big D before he found success.

The risk is too great for Flacco.  Undue pounding on his body could jeopardize his career.  Why not let him learn first?  It's clear that the expectation is for him to be the future leader, but let's not rush him.

His time will come....but it's not now.

Joe, your time will come!
