Stretching Your Budget
 Well, it's official: My expensive red sable brush is broken, finito, kaput. Dried ink is splitting the point and it has completely lost its springiness. I'm experiencing a type of sadness that one must feel after diligently caring for a houseplant only to watch it wither and die on the windowsill. Sigh. At least it gave me one last big fat guy before it kicked the bucket. On the subject of this cartoon, my editor said I could just as easily label the guy "Congress" or "Big Government." But I wanted to focus for a change on modern American society's obsession with "stuff." With inflation pushing the price of goods ever higher, people are struggling to maintain their standard of living and stick to a budget. Eve told me the other day about a guy she used to work with who had a TV in every room of his house and inside his car. Apparently, he said he needed all of them. I wonder how his credit score is doing nowadays. |
