I had to rush this cartoon because of a last-minute design project, and I'm not completely happy with the way it turned out. However, a prominent cartoonist once told me that since his best cartoons are the ones he shoots out without laboring over the lines, he limits himself to no more than two hours for getting the drawing finished. He's an incredibly gifted artist, so something he draws in five minutes would be ten times better than something that took me half a day to draw. But I do think he has a point -- after all, art schools early on emphasize activities that teach you how to capture images with only a few flicks of the wrist. With all that in mind, I can take satisfaction in the knowledge that, if nothing else, a rushed cartoon can help me get better.
