Sure, it’s a gimmick, but at least it’s a good one. When owners of a new Web firm were looking for a way to promote a company designed to help car owners maintain and sell their cars, they found their answer in typical San Francisco fashion — by getting nailed with a parking ticket.
San Francisco issued nearly 2 million citations last year, which is why the principals of driverside.com decided to announce their launch this week with a plan for paying the parking tickets of 100 city residents.
“We wanted to show we care about The City and the drivers here,’’ said Trevor Traina, DriverSide’s founding partner. “Parking tickets seemed natural, since we get so many it’s like the parking officers climb out of manholes.’’
Traina said they will announce the sweepstakes winners next week — you can go to their Web site to share your lucky citation number.
