Research website comScore released its latest data for key trends in the mobile communications world, and no surprise that Research In Motion has control of the market with 43% of smartphone users choosing to use a BlackBerry over other devices.

The data reports for the months of November 2009 to January of 2010 and states that there are 42.7 million smartphone users in the U.S. If you do that math, that comes out to over 18 million people using a BlackBerry from November to January. That's quite impressive, especially when you consider that Android has just under 3 million users (7.1%) and That Other Phone has a little over 10 million users (25.1%).

What exactly does all this mean?  Well first off, it means that inspite of the claims of Apple fanboys and Android fanatics, RIM is still on top, with close to twice as many users than its closest competition.

Iphone users will protest to all their phone offers and how they claim it is a better phone, however the data shows that Apple experienced the least amount of growth over the last six months.

Android users will riot in the streets saying that their platform is on the rise and will continue to rise, but the fact still remains that there are over six times as many BlackBerry users than Android users.  That's a pretty wide margin for Google to cover if they wish to take the spot as number one.

BlackBerry users should rejoice that even though we are getting all sorts of criticism for everything from SureType technology to the Pearl Flip, Research In Motion is still the best out there.  At least to 18 million smartphone users in the United States.

The polls show the data and as much as I hate Blackberry, not only due to the catastrophe they called the Storm but also due to the SERIOUS lack of apps geared toward the average user who wants to use their phone for more than just business, I have to agree with the fact that RIM is on top- for now. I am an Android user, and do firmly believe that Android will continue to rise at a steady if not increasing rate as more and more users hear about what it can do. This is just my opinion, but to me it seems that the Android OS is the perfect balance between the business man's Blackberry and the Highschool kid's iPhone. But again that may just be my opinion.
