This just in! The BlackBerry 9800 for which we have been waiting for months has finally arrived. A top secret training call with Research In Motion employees took place today where the company officially announced the most anticipated BlackBerry in years. Among the details on the call was the phone's official release date.
First off, RIM is going with the name Torch for the 9800. The slider touchscreen phone with a full qwerty keypad will also have a 5MP camera and OS 6.0, but this is all news we already knew about.
The phone is available for authorized dealers to order today and will launch in corporate stores on August 12th.
Yes that's right. August 12th. A mere 9 days away. In one week and two days, the BlackBerry Torch 9800 will be in our hands and ready for playing. In fact, the device's release is so close that AT&T sales reps will be going through mandatory training on the device starting today!
This is great news guys! Can't wait to get my hands on a Torch!
Stay glued to the BlackBerry Examiner for more details as they unfold.

Not everyone is with AT&T so this is hardly exciting.
Great phone on a poor network (bandwidth and user constrained AT&T) = unhappy customers. e.g. iPhone users.
You're a great company with a great history, AT&T. Now act like it and spend some money to get it right!
AT&T exclusive? Ugh. T-Mobile needs to get this. I'll never go back to AT&T, so I guess I have nothing to look forward to.
I'm with AT&T and I'm extremely excited. I've been waiting to upgrade and can't wait to get this phone!
SWEET!!!! My wife can finally dump her iPhone for a blackberry with a normal keyboard! BB's are SUPERIOR to iPhone! I will give her old one (BB Bold) and I will run with the Torch! Can't WAIT!!!
Hopefully this comes to Rogers Wireless in Canada!!
I hear this is going to be the best one yet!

i can't see why this matters. Blackberries are too slow for anything really. Add it to AT&T and there's nothing left to like. Push email is available on much better phones with physical keyboards. The turning hour glass has stolen too much of my precious time already.
Even if you're with ATT this is a very uncompelling phone when help next to the new Android and iPhones. I'd even rather have the new Win Mobile 7 phone than this.
This seems to be some sort of meme:
Post mentions AT&T Wireless --> some people with nothing better to do must complain about AT&T Wireless.
Where I work/live, reception (AT&T) is a non-issue. I can guarantee I can find places where for each carriers where they suck.
Don't complain on the internet, complain to the carrier. Do you think they're looking for comments on random sites for what people think of them? I sure don't... Do you like being around people who complain about something everytime it touches on some subject? I sure dont'...
Back to the device: I hadn't thought of a slider BB - bigger screen WITH keyboard. Heck ya! Awesome idea.
What are you talking about "top secret" -- it was a massive launch event in New York: engadget.com/2010/08/03/live-from-rim-and-atandamp-ts-blackberry-torch-event/

Just got the EVO, Been a droid user since the beginning. Iphone, Droid, Windows Phone 7, it all comes down to choices and with this addition from BlackBerry it should add to the already exciting growth in our mobile industry.

this is quite exciting.
i live in England. I can't wait to purchase one !
though i am loving my Blackberry Bold 9700. I want to upgrade.
At Last a phone I have been waiting for. But WHYYYYYYYYYYYYY is it AT&T. With stupid bandiwidth limits. I say T-Mobile pick this bad boy.
What about Verizon? I love my blackberry and looking forward to the new 9800 Touch.
I am soooooo excited. I've been wanting a touch screen phone for the longest time but didnt want to give up the bb keyboard that I love so much. this is the perfect solution. I've had my blackberry for about a year now and have been wanting to upgrade. August 12th can't get here soon enough.
Eventually it may come to T mobile since at&t and tmobile kinda have the same selection of blackberries due to the sim card! Hopefully it does my brother will get it soon and I'll get to use it but want to have my own ! Keep ur fingers crossed it does t mobile people

I am going to be waiting outside the ATT store near my house to buy one of these since my old awesomely reliable Pearl is finally dying. Good timing though, and honestly, I think the keyboard + screen is a winning combination for me. I would never own a keyboard-less phone especially when I hate having a dirty screen!
Oh and by dying, you may question its reliability, but it has been thrown out a moving car, run over, dropped an incredible amount of times and updated incorrectly and made it through all that for a nice long 3 years of near constant use.
How much the BlackBerry Torch without contract?
Got something to say?
