Maryland-Eastern Shore and American University met at William P. Hytche Athletic Center in Princess Anne, they sported a combined record of 0-11. Thanks to Neal Pitt and Tim Burns, the record is now 1-12, in favor of UMES.
Both players scored 16 points to give the Hawks (1-5) their first victory, a 65-58 win over the Eagles (0-7).
Kevin White added 13 points for UMES, which used 10 steals and forced 22 turnovers against American.
Stephen Lumpkins paced the Eagles with 15 points and nine rebounds, while Nick Hendra scored 11 points and Simon McCormack added 10 points.
