Bethune-Cookman announced Monday that it was not renewing the contract of longtime head football coach Alvin Wyatt Sr.
Athletic Director Lynn W. Thompson said the move was effective immediately. He also said that Wyatt's assistant coaches will remain, at least until a new coach is found. Thompson said that he is putting together a committee to begin an immediate search for Wyatt's replacement.
Bethune-Cookman joins Winston-Salem, Clark Atlanta and Tennessee State in a search for a new football coach. Winston-Salem's Kermit Blount and TSU's James Webster both resigned and Clark Atlanta decided not to keep interim coach Keith Higdon who went 0-4 after replacing Ted Bahhur. CAU still faces a discrimination lawsuit from Bahhur over the dismissal.
Wyatt was Bethune-Cookman's winningest head football coach, going 90-54 in 13 seasons. His Wildcats went 45-32 since an 11-2 record in 2002. However, Bethune-Cookman finished the 2009 campaign 5-6 (4-4 in the MEAC), the third losing season in the last four years.

A.D. Lynn Thompson is a man.
lol
Whoops, my mistake. I haven't met any black men named "Lynn," but that's no excuse. I should have checked the bio.
Thanks for the heads-up.
