Alan Cumming, who is an out and proud bisexual performer, was presented the high honor of the Order of the British Empire for his service to film, theater, arts, and his work for gay, lesbian, bisexual and transgender issues.

Cumming, born in Scotland, became an American citizen last year and was very open about his support for President Obama. He accepted the honor on Tuesday from Princess Anne.

Although he has spoken in the past about his attraction for both men and women, he is partnered with his husband Grant Shaffer, who attended the ceremony with his mother and his brother.

Cumming played an ad-libbed version of his bisexuality in the film "The Anniversary Party," which he co-directed and co-wrote with Jennifer Jason Leigh.

He won a Tony for his Broadway performance in "Cabaret," played Fegan Floop in the "Spy Kids" movies, Nightcrawler in "X2" and was a bad guy in the James Bond film "GoldenEye."

He was married for eight years to actress Hilary Lyon and dated Saffron Burrows before opening up about his bisexuality.

At the ceremony for the OBE, wearing a tartan kilt and jacket, he said, "I have a voice because of my work. I'm loud and I speak my mind, and yes, I have no underpants on."

Although it's unclear whether Cumming is the first out bisexual to have received this honor, he is definitely not the first bisexual.

I wonder if we can ask him to come to the 10th International Conference on Bisexuality in London, UK (www.bicon2010.org.uk), wearing his OBE, and that kilt.
