Two male penguins named Vielpunkt and Z have hatched their own egg that was abandoned by another couple, and they are now taking care of it. The story was announced in The Scotsman newspaper this weekend, and zookeepers discussed how the penguins were exhibiting all the signs of a heterosexual couple that is raising their children.
Now, the reason I say they are bisexual rather than gay, as most media are reporting, is that at least one of the guys have exhibited traditional mating rituals when women are introduced into their populace, but Vielpunkt and Z have chosen to remain monogamous with each other.
Six of the 20 penguins in the Bremerhaven Zoo in northern Germany have exhibited same-sex coupling. And other zoos have reported the same in this species of penguins, too.
Bisexuality definitely exists in the animal kingdom. Whole books have been written about it, and we have excerpts of all different species in my awar-winning book: "The Bisexual's Guide to the Universe: Quips, Tips and Lists for those Who Go Both Ways."
The BBC News reported:
There have been previous reports of exclusive male-to-male pairings among penguins, some of which have also included the rearing of chicks.
Homosexual behaviour is well documented in many different animals, but it is not understood in detail, says Professor Stuart West, an evolutionary biologist at the University of Oxford.
Professor West says it has been suggested that homosexual activity could serve various purposes - for instance, it may relate to social bonding and establishment of dominance among bonobo chimps, while in some bird species, females may come together to rear young.
Other animals may simply exhibit a "drive to mate", while others may, like humans, enjoy non-procreative sexual activity.
I'll have excerpts from my book and from other experts who have observed bisexuality in the animal kingdom.
Below is a video of the news story and a slide show of the penguins.
Stop trying to justify bisexuality by talking about bi penguins. So you're going to compare yourself to penguins, now, which don't have a higher intelligence like humans -- & ultimately, they're going to engage in acts more by instinct w/o any rational thinking process. A dog licks himself. Will you do the same simply because a dog does it? I hope not.
this could be a neighborly duty raising offspring of a flock, tribe or what have you. there's no indication the male penguins are intimate or having gay sex. many times in the animal kingdom same gender animals hump for dominance reasons it's not exactly a love thing going on. this relationship could be platonic. 2 males together doesn't always mean gay.
Zach, did you watch the news footage? They tried to seperate the two boys in hopes to get them to take a mate, and they refused to be with anyone else.
Jazmine-- Please try to use the rational thinking process you talk about and not just rely on the latest line from the church. There is no rational reason that two people who love each other shouldn't be together, or for that matter, wank off.
Sorry to burst your illusory bubble, but there's nothing biblical about my comments. Why the church comment? Kinda interesting you make assumptions. And by the way, my thinking process is rational. Many are threatened by common sense. I guess you can't handle a difference in opinion, which should be respected. You want others to be open yet it seems you close yourself off to others' viewpoints. Hmmm... think about that.
Wank off -- sounds like a slang term a 16-year-old would use. The higher purpose of life is wanking off. WOW!!! It's kinda interesting whenever man/woman is mentioned, gays jump to church line conclusions. This author should appreciate the fact that a man/woman came together and CREATED him or else he wouldn't have been born! That is the norm in society. It's the natural order of things. There's nothing remotely biblical about it. Maybe if he experienced that arrangement and produced a traditional family he would understand. But because he never did, he won't.
just like a couple whose not in the mood for sex, the penguins weren't in the moood for mating - one possibility. could be a brotherly bond. does an attraction really exist? once you ask a penguin, let us all know.

Shut the F up Jazmine. Quit sucking on your mother's breasts. You've drained the life out of her long ago.
