In response to a comment on my H1N1 article, I went to the Germy Wormy® website to see what it was all about. I had never heard the term before, and was pleased to find such a clever new product on the market.
Parents and teachers alike will enjoy this innovative new creation made to stop germs from being spread. The idea behind it is to not only teach kids about germs in a playful yet informative manner, but also provide a simple tool that helps to stop the spread of them.
The Germy Wormy® sleeve creates an environment that traps germs and lessens the chance of children spreading them through coughing and sneezing. It is a tissue-like sleeve that fits in the crease of a childs elbow to catch germs when they happen to cough. The sleeve can then be easily removed and disposed of without anyone touching the germs.
Most children today cough into their hands (if they cover their mouths at all) and give germs the chance to spread every time they touch something. And lets face it, washing germ-filled hands immediately after coughing or sneezing is not top priority while sitting in class or playing with friends.
There is a DVD that goes along with the sleeve called Germy Wormy® Germ Smarts for Kids DVD. It could be a helpful aid for teachers (or parents even) looking for ways to explain the importance of not spreading germs.
The DVD provides a fast and highly effective way to teach kids what they need to know about not getting or giving germs. Kids will realize quickly how the spreading of germs can cause illness and will gain knowledge about what they can do to help stop it.
According to the website, Customers are reporting a 50% reduction in colds and flu's for children and others around them. And that means 50% less time off school and work. 50% less doctor visits and or medicine to buy!
With flu season in its prime and Christmas only a few weeks away, Germy Wormy® is bound to be a hit. The Germy Wormy® disposable sleeves come in a pack of ten for $6.99 and the DVD is priced at $12.00. Not bad considering it could drastically cut the spread of both the 2009 H1N1 virus and the seasonal flu.
Two thumbs up in my book!
