Preview: Senators host Phantoms in Thanksgiving tilt

The Binghamton Senators renew a Thanksgiving tradition this evening with a 6:05 faceoff against the Adirondack Phantoms.  It is the second meeting of the season between the two teams.  Binghamton won in Glens Falls back on November 13th, by the score of 5-0.

It is the 36th time a Binghamton franchise has hosted a Thanksgiving game.  In the previous 35 played in Binghamton, N.Y., since professional hockey first came to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena in 1973... The home team is an even 16-16-3.

Affiliations: Adirondack is the American Hockey League affiliate of the Philadelphia Flyers.  This is their first year in Adirondack.  The franchise moved from Philadelphia following the 2008-2009 season, ending a 13-year run.  

Binghamton has been affiliated with the Ottawa Senators since 2002.

Season series: Binghamton leads 1-0-0-0.

Adirondack by the numbers: 29th out of 29 teams in scoring (2.19 goals-per-game average); ninth in goals allowed (2.50 per game); 21st in power play; ninth in penalty kill.

Center Jon Matsumoto leads the Phantoms with 14 points (seven goals, seven assists) over 16 games. Johan Backlund (6-5-0 record, 2.46 goals-against average, .916 save percentage) and rookie Nic Riopel (1-3-0, 2.70, .904) man the goaltending duties for Adirondack.

The Flyers returned right wing David Laliberte to Adirondack on Wednesday. Laliberte, a fourth-round pick in 2004, has logged eight NHL games this season.

Binghamton by the numbers: seventh in scoring (3.05 per game); T-21st in goals allowed (3.10 per game); 13th in power play; 12th in penalty kill.

Binghamton's top offensive weapon, Ryan Keller and with starting goalie Mike Brodeur are still up with the big club in Ottawa.

Andy Chiodo will likely get the start in goal tonight.  He has stopped 55 of 57 shots over his last two starts, both wins.

The Senators will once again wear Thanksgiving themed jerseys, which will be auctioned off following the game.
