The Red Onion is another of those unique, comfortable, neighborhood bars that are a central part of the Phoenix Metro area. The owners and staff are incredibly friendly, and if you are new to the 'Onion', watching the regulars while enjoying one of their world famous burgers is a pleasure unto itself.
And this is no lie on how good their burgers are, in fact, they were voted the Best Burgers in Phoenix by a number of publications. This is a great reputation for a bar that has been a staple on Cave Creek Rd. for over 22 years.
The Red Onion Lounge may not look like much on the outside, but once you enter in you are surprised by the atmosphere. There are large screen televisions to watch sporting events, and be careful if your team is playing the Green Bay Packers the day you come in, because you will definitely be on the wrong side of the crowd. What also needs to be mentioned is the outdoor patio for smokers, which these days is a very big bonus for many who still partake of this while at the bar.
The Onion has many activities and fundraising events going on throughout the year. From Bike Nights, Beach parties, and even charity events like Breast Cancer Awareness, giving back to the community and the neighborhood is par for the course for this legendary place.
Besides a jukebox, stand-up video games, and sit-down bar games for patrons to enjoy, there is also Karaoke and pool tables to sate anyone's appetite for something to do here. The Onion has three bar tables and two weekly pool tournaments that always bring in good participants.
The tournaments are on Wednesdays and Sundays, and each start at different times, but with the same entry fee and parameters.
Wednesday Tournament:
$5.00 entry, begins at 8:00pm, with 200% payout
Sunday Tournament:
$5.00 entry, begins at 7:00pm, with 200% payout.
Currently, there are no leagues playing at the Onion, but the weekly pool tournaments bring in between 20 and 32 players.
All in all, the Red Onion Lounge is a fun and enjoyable neighborhood bar that has a lot of history and success in focusing on what their regulars want… a comfortable setting, good drinks, and a great time.
