In a previous article Anointing brings increase, I wrote on" the effect of being in the supernatural flow has on your life." In this article I want to discuss how to get into the flow. Think of the outpouring of the Holy Spirit as a waterfall. The waterfall cascades down from the rock in a rush. You can stand under the rush, which would equate to being right next to the rock or you can stand a distance away from the rush.
Many people who go to large waterfalls, like the large falls in Zimbabwe known as the Victoria Falls, choose to stand a distance from the falls. The sound of the rushing water cascading down onto the rocks has an effect on some people, keeping them at a distance. The water also seems to keep people away. While many will come in close, and just plain get wet from the spray, most will keep their distance. People don't like to get wet - it may mess their hair up!
In this metaphor it is easy to see why so many Christians are afraid of the outpouring of the Holy Ghost. People do strange things when they receive the Holy Spirit. In Acts 2:4 the apostles began to speak with strange tongues. I am not sure what was so strange about the tongues, seeing as in verse 11 it records that the people standing nearby understood them. This strange tongue was in fact the languages of the Arabs, Cretans - visitors from Rome. Yet despite this, the people were amazed? The word amazed is defined
v. a·mazed, a·maz·ing, a·maz·esv.tr.
1. To affect with great wonder; astonish. See Synonyms at surprise.2. Obsolete To bewilder; perplex.
To affect with wonder...sounds to me like what I have witnessed when people see the Victoria Falls for the first time. The onlookers looked at the disciples with amazement. This is common to the Spirit filled churches today. When a visitor arrives and the Church starts to speak in tongues, the visitor (if he/she is not spirit filled) will react in one of two ways. One, the visitor will leave the church immediately or two the visitor will want to get wet! The Holy Spirit outpouring causes people to react.
In Acts 2:3 the fire of God sat upon each disciple. Fire always represents God's glory in the bible. The Glory of God sat upon the disciples and forever changed them. Is it time for you to be forever changed? Invite the Holy Spirit to come and live within you, and be forever changed.
