Part 1: Revelation 8:8 and the Deepwater Horizon oil spill. (Live video streams)

The world is transfixed on the environmental disaster associated with the Deepwater Horizon oil well in the Gulf of Mexico.

The most recent endeavor to cap the oil spill through what is being called the “Top Kill” attempt, is not proving to be a success, as complications have arisen in the effort to install a containment cap. As if to add to the dilemma, people involved in the clean up effort are now becoming ill, showing signs of respiratory problems, headaches and nausea.

The potential scope of the consequences, has naturally caused some believers to speculate as to whether this event is tied to Bible prophecy. Although this author believes that a comparison between the two mitigates against such a conclusion, recent comments have been made which require another thoughtful comparison between recent events and the prophecy of Revelation 8:8-9:

Revel ation 8:8-9

And the second angel sounded, and as it were a great mountain burning with fire was cast into the sea: and the third part of the sea became blood; And the third part of the creatures which were in the sea, and had life, died; and the third part of the ships were destroyed.

Lynn D. comments:

I think the reason the oil is turning red is because of the toxic Corexit dispersant. It causes the blood vessels of marine life to rupture and makes them bleed to death. This whole disaster does seem like Revelation 8:9 but I just wonder why it is not in the correct order? There are some seal judgments and trumpet judgments that should come before this unless they are done in order but my Bible says that "God is the same, yesterday, today and forever." … So I just wonder if this BP disaster is another Illuminati false flag event, since it clearly was orchestrated by men under the control of evil spiritual principalities and powers, because no one can be as stupid as BP and the government bureaucracies have been in their handling of this situation, turning down numerous nontoxic and viable solutions.

 Bible Prophecy Examiner responds:

Lynn,

The connection between the dispersant and the red color of the sea is a good one. The question of order is one which cannot be understood easily. There are reasons to believe that our perspective of chronology of the judgments in the Book of Revelation are not necessarily valid. Many of the seal judgments and trumpet judgments seem to be describing the same events. Although the idea that this disaster was created with intent to mirror Bible prophecy is difficult to conceive, given the clumsy, ineffective attempts to stop it, your postulation is not beyond the realm of possibility.

 Marie comments:

I personally believe that the Gulf Oil Spill, rather, Gusher is in fact what John saw in revelation regarding the Mountain burning in the sea and the waters turning to blood. We have to remember that, in those days, the descriptions of current events, in our wording was limited. John wouldn't have said an "oil rig" exploded. He saw the fire from above (looking down from Heaven) and then the red waters and dead sea life along with ships docked or abandoned. I believe he interpreted what he saw as a "mountain" of fire because of the rig protruding out of the waters and on fire. Even scientists are saying that they don't know why the "oil is showing up red" on the surface of the waters making it look like blood. (article: news.softpedia.com). Today (6/2/10) the Huffington Post has pictures of the oil slick that you can clearly see looks like "blood on the waters". My overall opinion is that what is happening is "the beginning of sorrows" or a foreshadow of what will fully occur.

Shoequeen2b echoes Marie’s observation:

With respect to something like a mountain being on fire and thrown into the sea, if you think about it, the rig is triangular shaped, like a mountain, it did catch fire and was thrown into the sea or at least portions. The catastrophe, the oil IS like the blood of a man - the color on the water is like blood. In my opinion, this could lead to a 1/3 of the sea life being killed as it makes its way up and down the gulf coast, perhaps even the east and west coast of the US and then is transported via the currents around the oceanic sections of the world until a 1/3 of the marine life is ultimately killed. I also have to wonder if the US is truly not Mystery Babylon having brought about the global economic collapse with more to come in the future since we have continued to progressively turn our back on the Lord over the past 30-40 years in a country who once honored Him. The murdered children cry out for justice!

Elizabeth Delaney adds:

One other suggestion I might make, though, is that the mountain burning with fire might actually be some kind of missile or nuclear warhead. Sometimes God uses men to carry out his judgment. Examples of that are illustrated throughout the Old Testament when Israel's enemies overcame her. Of course, no one knows exactly what John meant by a mountain burning with fire, but we can all agree that it equates to some kind of disaster -- either an "act of God" or God "stepping aside" and letting men do it for Him.

Bible Prophecy Examiner responds:

Marie, I do use the King James Version Bible and I don’t see any reference to John seeing “fire from above” in Revelation 8.

I do recognize that all believers can do at this point, is to speculate and I do agree with Marie, that this most likely represents "the beginning of sorrows" mentioned in Matthew 24.

I do not believe this to be the “great mountain burning with fire” which will be cast into the sea, for reasons which will be forthcoming.

Shoequeen2b, the idea that the US is Mystery Babylon of Revelation 17:5, cannot be ruled out either, although I do believe that it may be just one iteration of fulfillment of that prophecy.

My take on Revelation 17:5, is that it represents the mystery religion that overcame the Roman Catholic Church. This is a subject that cannot be fully addressed now, but it will no doubt be addressed in a future article.

I do agree with Elizabeth that “no one knows exactly what John meant by a mountain burning with fire.” When it comes to understanding Bible prophecy, we are as blind men, seeking to describe an elephant. The reasons why I believe that this event is not the incident described in Revelation 8:8-9 , can be found in the next installment of this examination.

Weather this disaster is Revelation 8:8-9 we cannot know for certain. Either way it is a sign of end times, which include the great harvest of souls. That is the message that is coming through loud and clear. The media drone on and on about the disaster, I want to spend my time on the harvest!

Jesus is coming back very soon, and many people will be shocked when this happens, because most people dont believe in God anymore. When i mention Jesus coming back at my job, most people laugh, and think im silly for believing in him. They wont be laughing when he does indeed return. And i hope its soon.

Charles, I must agree. You aren't surprised I'm sure.

david g, I have discovered that Jesus Christ is the most hated man in history. Some are amazed at this statement. They mention Hitler. Stalin, and even Osama Bin Ladin.

The truth is, you can strike up a conversation with just about anybody about those three men and people will discuss them.

Talk to them about Christ and most will run in the other direction.

    My question is...

Will the Gulf become the "lake of fire?"

    Diane,

I doubt it. It may become a Gulf of fire, if the right ignition device can be employed.

Check out this AP news article.

Seems the oil gushing from the Gulf contains huge amounts of methane gas
which is highly flammable and could create dead zones in the Gulf.

Well... I tried to post the URL to the news article...
but I received a message that URLs aren't allowed here ??

    Google the news article title:

i think the author is confusing the end of the world and Jesus's return with the tribulation judgments, i think he also leans too heavily on sitchin who is after all just another author pushing his own interpretation of revelation.

    ozmliad,

I disagree. Of course, I am the author and you would expect that, wouldn't you?

My Bible says that Christ returns "immediately after the tribulation of those days" (Ref: Matthew 24)

I suspect you believe in a pre-tribulation rapture. My Bible (KJV) doesn't teach one. Of course, the Authorized Version (KJV)is unpopular these days.

To clarify, Revelation does not say a "great mountain", it says "something LIKE a great mountain."
