Raspberry Hefeweizen in salad dressing? Although the idea sounds strange it works, for a subtler alternative to the typical raspberry vinaigrette.
I got the idea from a bottle of Harpoon's UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen I had in my fridge. I'd brought home a six pack because I remembered loving the taste when I had it in a bar. Brought home in a bottle, I found it disappointing, but it gave me inspiration.
It would make a great alternative recipe for raspberry vinaigrette:
Elizabeth's Improbably Tasty Raspberry Hefeweizen Vinaigrette:
2 tablespoons UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen
2 teaspoons olive oil
2 teaspoons (or so) cider or malt vinegar.
Stir ingredients together, or shake in a small, sealed jar.
Pour over a salad of delicate-flavored fresh vegetables, like young lettuce, breakfast radishes, baby turnips and ripe tomatoes. Chicken breast would work in this salad too, but I didn't have any.
Serves one, with some leftover dressing.
Beer pairing: UFO Raspberry Hefeweizen, of course!
Notes- I wouldn't try this with other raspberry wheat beers, or raspberry infused beers. Because I like to drink them too much to want to use them for something else. This worked, because I wound up being underwhelmed by the beer on its own. Not sure whether bottled versus on tap was what made the difference.
Try it and leave me a comment. Or tell me what's in your salad.
As always, if you have beer recommendations, recipe suggestions, or anything else, please email me.
