The 2009 Beer Institute report on per capita consumption by state was recently released. While the national per capita consumption decreased 3% from 30.4 gallons to 29.5 gallons per capita, Montana has retained the number one spot as the state with the highest per capita beer consumption.
Per capita consumption is based on shipments of malt beverages in each state and the current year’s over 21 years old population.
The top ten per capita beer consumption states held their positions within the top ten, but there was a bit of reshuffling among the 5th through 10th spots.
