Be my valentine? Not exactly. BrewDog moons the Scottish
Governement with their reBUTTale called Nanny State. Photo

If you ever savored and sipped a high alcohol style of beer and contemplated its carefully brewed nuances of flavor, aroma and complexity we interrupt your appreciation with condemnation from the Scottish government.
You are not only unworthy, but hereby deemed an irresponsible beer drinker. In essence so says the wise and prudent government body in Scotland regarding strong beer. When the Scottish brewery BrewDog brewed up their latest delicacy, they received a scolding. “Irresponsible” they said of their highly contagious creation Tokyo Imperial Stout at 18.8% alcohol by volume (abv).
Brewdog’s reaction? They lifted their kilts and turned their backs, brewing up a reBUTE-ale called Nanny State at 1.1%. What is most troubling about Nanny State is that if this hoppy brew ever caught on, the Scottish government wouldn’t get any excise tax because its alcohol content so low it doesn’t qualify as taxable beer.
This is all in the land of Skye, blue water and 80 proof Scotch whisky.
One can only imagine those representing government in Scotland are only into beer drinking for the alcohol. Perhaps they need to enroll into a beer appreciation class?

I love this near-beer idea! Great article, Charlie!
Great story, great article! I hope the near-beer sells out.
