England’s CAMRA’s (Campaign for Real Ale) Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) takes place August 3-7 at Earls Court in London. During the 5 day festival, attendees will have much more to experience than the 500+ cask ales traditionally offered, in half pint or one pint “samples.”
The Americans are coming again. Again.
Brewers Association small brewery members will be offering beer from over 25 American craft brewers. Last year was a hit. According to a recent report in the UK beverage journal, The Publican, “Great British Beer Festival (GBBF) 2010: A cask ale celebration,” "…one of the focuses will be on beers from the US craft brewers whose ales proved extremely popular last year and sold out very quickly. The order for this year has sensibly been significantly increased.”
The British beer drinker is finally recognizing American beer is not all light lager. Hops, malt, balance, flavor and diversity from American craft brewers are headlining a special area of the festival at this year’s GBBF. For a break from the impressive lineup of UK cask ales, ciders and perries (pear cider) festival attendees are migrating to Bieres Sans Frontières or commonly called the “foreign beer bar.”
The Brewers Association and brewery members haverepresented American craft brews at the GBBF since 2008. Its successful Export Development Program for small brewery members of the organization has steadily heightened awareness of the flavor, diversity and quality of American made craft brews.
The Brewers Association has represented the culture of American small craft brewers in Brazil, China, Singapore, Denmark, Canada, the Netherlands, the UK, Germany, the Philippines, New Zealand, Australia Sweden, Italy and other developing beer markets throughout the world. “I never knew American beer could be this wonderful,” is the initial response from beer drinkers around the world. After that it’s usually followed with , “More please.” And an empty and willing glass
