Today's Solution: Anti-Aging Perfume?

http://www.agelessfantasy.com/
Okay so I’ll admit that this is something I’ve kind of been researching. I mean, who doesn’t want to smell youthful and vibrant? You would think that at 24 I wouldn’t be overly concerned with anti-aging, but you’d be wrong, wrong, WRONG! I have nightmares of waking up 30 years older and looking all wrinkly. So when I saw an article about a perfume that can make you smell younger, I instantly thought of a magic invisible aura that will turn even the oldest and most wizened of crones into to a beautiful fresh-faced youth.

So I sampled Ageless Fantasy and was annoyed. Don’t get me wrong, it was very lovely, but it was just another pink scent. By this I mean that it’s pretty and floral and sweet-citrusy, and it did make me think of a younger woman, but not necessarily in the good way. I came of age in the time of Pink Scents, which is a whole variety of fragrances aimed at teen girls between the ages of 15 and 19. Notes like cotton candy, sugar, grapefruit, and vanilla are always present, usually with bergamot and musk thrown in for texture. My favorite for several years was Victoria Secret’s Pink (which I started wearing when it was first launched and continued to wear until ‘05) and that was my go-to scent for ages. It was one of those flirty little fragrances that’s as whimsical and fun as a watermelon lip gloss or a pair of funky heals. That isn't to say that Agless Fantasy smells like Victoria Secret, please don't be confused by the comparison. What I mean is that it's simply a Pink Fragrance, a fragrance that forces you to think of pink blouses and flouncy skirts and all things teenage.

The thing of it is, the “science” that the website talks about, (sounds like basic aromatherapy to me) is really referring to a sniff test with an all-male test group. What did they say? They said that they associate certain scents with older women and certain scents with younger ones. Well, I could have told you that was going to happen – younger women wear young-smelling perfume. If the market was saturated with rich complex rose notes marketed specifically to young women and it was heavily popular, that’s the scent that would be directly associated with youth. What's popular = General Perception. I don’t overly feel like this scent is worth the $100+ price tag when there are other fresh pink scents out there that have the same juvenile composition.

Until next time! Beauty and best wishes,
