This is not your parents polo match. The Green Cup of Polo is young, hip, and eco-friendly, but can luxury and sustainable really co exist? Sara Nielsen sure seems to think so.
As co founder of The Green Cup, she's partnered with heavy hitters such as EarthEcho International, (created by Philippe Cousteau Sr., & the grandson of Captain Jacques-Yves Cousteau) EPIC, (Equestrian Partners in Conservation) and ACORE, (American Council On Renewable Energy) to create the first ever social event to be certified 'green' by the Leonardo Academy.
This may be an environmentally conscious event but you might not want to show up wearing your Birks and hemp cut offs, we're talking new environmentalists here. Much like the emergence of new media they are setting the trends not following them. For example, the fashion show will showcase hot, young designers from NYC fashion week. Sexy models showing off the latest styles as they strut down the eco-friendly runway to the beat of DJ Didi of Brazilian Girls. Designers featured include Joann Berman, Dalia Mac Phee and Vaute Couture.
Never fear if this years event is anything like last years the who's who of Washington DC will be in attendance. Some of this years confirmed guests include D. Hector Marcos Timerman, Ambassador of Argentina, Chip Reid, White House Correspondent for CBS News, Ross Tyler, Director, Maryland Govt Clean Energy Program, Gerald P. Carmen, Former Ambassador to the UN. A few more notables are rumored to be in attendance like polo enthusiast and actor Tommy Lee Jones.
Polo fans will be treated to organic, sustainably harvested libations, while volunteers scamper around in fair-trade, organic cotton tees. All promotional materials will be 30% post-consumer recycled paper with soy- or vegetable-based ink, recycling and composting bins positioned throughout the event. Even the cleanup will be done by and eco-friendly cleaning company and last but not least, reusable VIP swag bags.

Since you brought it up, is the Salahi event really going to happen?
I am a Polo fan and have been to many polo matches... Lisa I feel this is a great event that is taking place. I do believe that both can co-exsist. What better way to promote going green than at a Elite Polo Match..!!! Polo is a sport for the "Rich and Shameless" and if anyone can afford to go green it's them!!!! Keep up the great work Lisa!!!!! You are fabulous at what do and do not let people like "SusanLD" get you down...she is probably just jealous.
Sounds like a cool event. Glad to see events like this making more of an effort to reduce, reuse, and recycle!
Miss Lisa Marie-I enjoy your article and always read it first. Your cheery style and research brings us the latest and most up to date trends and events. Thank you for promoting the protection of animals and our environment, you remind us all of what needs to be a priority in this often wreckless world we're living in.
The Green Cup Of Polo is an AMAZING event!! Everyone involved is passionate
about this wonderful cause! The Polo players are dedicated Professionals determined to raise money & make a difference.
As for "Susan" We know who you are! You are one of Michaele Salahis old friends that on ANY article that is put out about her or mentions her name you feel the need to insult others & do so in such a "grotesque" way!!
You are nothing but a hideous white trash women, who supports and defends the Salahis & all their dishonest & despicable behaviour!
That also says a lot about you! The people that you attack are GOOD & honest people unlike you! You even work around animals at an animal hospital which is quite surprising considering your lack of compassion others (animals included) Susan the definition of you is a Whiskey Tango!
Certainly you have to look that up in the dictionary what that means..I will give you a hint..."WHITE TRASH!!!" BTW-
This article is clearly about a wonderful event supporting the environment. After reading the entire article I found nothing negative about Salahis and find it very strange that you people have used this page to argue personal vendettas but perhaps you have nothing better to do with you time?
I think Lisa Marie and the Examiner should delete these silly posts so that they do not distract from the highlighting an eco-friendly event.
Thank you all for your comments, as I am compensated based on my number of views and number of comments.
I truly did not set out to ignite such a fury by mentioning that the Salahis would not be a part of the Green Polo Cup. They are often covered by the media and many times in a far less flattering light.
I really didn't think this would be upsetting to anyone? I was simply pointing out that The Green Polo Cup was not connected to the Salahi's polo event.
Thank you all for following my columns and please keep your comments coming!
