Salon Cercone is the friendliest salon in Shadyside!
"That's what our clients tell us anyway!" says owner Gary Cercone.
I would tend to agree with him.
Salon Cercone is an elegant, but indeed, very friendly salon on Ellsworth Ave. in Shadyside. Lots of windows offer plenty of natural light, which creates a perfect environment for hair color. (the better the ambient light, the easier it is for a colorist to evaluate color.)
Some of the things that I've noticed when visiting Salon Cercone are how pleased the clients are, and how relaxed and happy the staff always seems. Have you ever walked into a salon and nobody looks happy? Looks like everyone is angry or having a bad day? That is the opposite of the atmosphere at Salon Cercone. Everyone gets along, and the stylists all seem to genuinely like each other. And, they like working there. Good-natured teasing and banter flies around occasionally, but there's an underlying current of affection and professional respect that is unmistakable. There's no snooty, down-the-nose-looking receptionist, nobody gives you that blatant eying-up and evaluation when you walk in the door. And yet, these are world-class hairstylists with all the training, skill, experience and talent you'd expect to find in a prominent, well-established Shadyside Salon.

The salon is a pretty, 3-story, space with hardwood floors and floor-to-ceiling windows. There's a private room on the lower level for nails and waxing, and the stylists work on the upper two floors. Six talented hairstylists and one nail technician (with faithful clients who have been following him for 18 years!) are available to care for you at Salon Cercone. All types of hair can be accommodated including any ethnicity, and one stylist in particular, Eddy, is especially gifted with curly hair. He's gotten rave reviews on naturallycurly.com! All of the stylists are accomplished colorists as well, and the salon uses Wella Koleston Perfect as its primary color line. If you're looking for anything from subtle to fun and edgy, they can create it for you.

Salon Cercone has been in business for over 14 years; ten years at their former location on Bellefonte St, just off Walnut, and then moved to 5894 Ellsworth Ave. about four years ago. The salon is open late Wednesday and Thursday. The price range is in the mid-range of what you'd expect for Shadyside; haircuts start at $40. It's a pretty, comfortable, welcoming place in a great neighborhood, where you can expect the very best quality in hair services without all the drama and snootiness.
