But what does beauty mean to you?
Recently The Powder Group and Metropolitan Pavilion hosted The Makeup Show NYC here in Manhattan.
With so many talented and accomplished makeup artists in one place the question to them was, what does beauty mean?
Celebrating it's 5th anniversary, The Makeup Show Director of Artistry, James Vincent was inspired by the 5 boroughs of NYC and the beautiful women that represent them.
James created a special tribute "5 Years. 5 Icons. 5 Boroughs."
From the Bronx was Jennifer Lopez, from Brooklyn Barbara Streisand, from Queens Cyndi Lauper, from Staten Island Joan Baez and of course Manhattan was inspired by classic beauty Brooke Shields.
Among the experts was L'Oreal Paris Hair Expert Johnny Lavoy.
When asked what one beauty tip can you give the average woman, Johnny stated there's not one tip for all women because there's "not one look for every woman." But he would advise all women to have hair treatments. His advise- "Women should do treatments, spend a little time and pamper yourself a little bit."

Makeup Artist and Educator Orlando Santiago recreated the retro Cyndi Lauper look. "The 80's are back and this look gives you a chance to express yourself" says Orlando. "If you didn't live in the 80's or you were too young, now is your chance. And for those who want to relive it or who never left this is a chance to update the look."
Makeup Artist John Hennessey's advise- "Lighten up on the foundation!" John demonstrated an amplified Joan Baez look. "It's a wearable look for pretty much anything. Women should focus on selecting colors that look good on the face."
Danessa Myrichs of I Make you Beautiful created a dramatic yet beautiful smoky eye inspired by Barbara Streisand. Danessa says, "most of my work is very eye focused." and "a smoky eye never goes at of style and is much easier to achieve than most people think."

"The brownish, bronzy blending make this look soft, sexy and bright and golden pigments blended in make brown eyes pop."
Esteriq's beauty tip: "curl your lashes"
All of the looks definitely had one thing in common and that was great skin.
Several makeup lines at the show were displaying air brush makeup and equipment. Of course some lines were there strictly fro the pro's while others were both pro and consumer friendly.
Luminess Air Makeup Artist Marc says "women can now have flawless skin every day and not reserve it just for special occasions." The Luminess air brush is cost effective at only $169 and easy to use for professionals and consumers alike.
