Living and working in the city of Baltimore often means that you have a very go go lifestyle and sometimes don't have the time for tons of primping either in the evening or the AM. Sometimes those few extra minutes of sleep make us decide that maybe this morning, washing our hair is less important than sleep. Unfortunately for some of us, not washing your hair creates a bigger oil slick than the one left behind by the Exxon Valdez.
Many of you out there read beauty and fashion magazines and have probably heard that if you don't have time to wash your hair in the morning and are running short on time and you have a very greasy mane, if you apply some baby powder to the roots, that this will suck up the excess oil and you can go one more day without washing your hair. Having read this for many years, this afternoon, I attempted to experiment with this and see if it actually works. After all, why would beauty insiders steer you wrong?
Essentially, the baby powder trick is a failure. If you have fair hair instead of brunette you might be able to work with it a little bit more. Unfortunately, having brunette hair and then adding baby powder to it makes you have very odd looking gray bits in your hair. Additionally, it doesn't really soak up the oil and kind of just makes your hair look flattish and it also has the side effect of smelling like baby powder until you wash it again.
Many hair products companies out there make dry shampoo. Most notably, Klorane and Bumble and Bumble. The cost of Klorane is $18 and is available at Sephora. Bumble and Bumble dry shampoo is $35 and also comes in a range of shades based on your individual hair color. This product is available at Bumble and Bumble's website.

that sucks i was going to try the baby powder thing this week; glad i didn't. thanks for the info on the dry shampoo too, i had no idea it even existed. have you tried it out too?
Well that isn't entirely true. It may just be your hair, because I have a large bottle of baby powder that I use when I can't afford anymore dry shampoo. I do have brunette hair, so maybe you can't judge off of one attempt. Also there are other dry shampoos, that are effective and LESS expensive. Like Suave, which is only about $3 or even Victorias Secret which is $12, works wonders!
